This is the second-semester course on organic chemistry. The topics to be studied include: spectroscopic methods for the determination of organic molecules, including MS, IR, UV-Vis, 1H and 13C NMR. Properties and reaction mechanisms for carboxylic acids and derivatives, aldehydes, ketones, alpha-carbon chemistry of carbonyl compounds, and amines (Chapters 12- 20, text).

Attendance

Attendance in laboratory periods is mandatory. If a laboratory or a quiz is not completed a mark of zero will be awarded for that lab or quiz. If you have a valid documented reason (illness or bereavement) for missing a laboratory session you must contact the laboratory instructor as soon as possible and discuss how you may complete the laboratory. Excessive absence from laboratory sessions (more than three missed sessions) may result in your being required to drop the course.
