Pathway and Pathway Scholarship

All course route students must complete Pathway, which consists of two requirements:

SCWK 6000 Pathway - a mandatory, non-credit, repeatable program requirement. Pathway is completed under the guidance and supervision of an instructor chosen by the student. The topic area and content of Pathway is normally arrived at through discussions between the student and the instructor. Students register for SCWK 6000 in their first semester and in each subsequent semester until all other MSW coursework has been completed.

SCWK 6417 Pathway Scholarship - a mandatory, 3-credit hour capstone course for students in the course route of the MSW program.  It is the final course completed by course-route students and must be completed in one semester only. In this course, students produce a scholarly product or project that reflects and integrates their learning across the program.

NOTE: Students will not be able to register for SCWK 6417 themselves. To be eligible, students must submit the M.S.W. Pathway Learning Contract (see below) while registered in SCWK 6000, no later than two months before the start of the semester in which students wish to take SCWK 6417.

All course route students must review the Pathway Scholarship Manual as soon as possible, after registering for SCWK 6000 in their first semester. The manual provides full guidance on Pathway, including course descriptions, choosing a topic, choosing an instructor, and preparing a project or product with all required documents.

All mandatory forms for Pathway and Pathway Scholarship are included as attachments in the Manual and provided below for convenience:
