School of Social Work Grants Facilitation Officer

The Grants Facilitation Officer (GFO) is a first point of contact and a communication liaison between School of Social Work researchers and administrators in the Office of the Vice-President (Research), Research Initiatives & Services (RIS), and CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services (CCCS). The GFO works with RIS and CCCS to ensure researchers are appropriately educated on and familiar with university and sponsor policies, guidelines and deadlines.

The School of Social Work Grants Facilitation Officer:

• Identifies funding opportunities aligned with the faculty’s program of research.

• Provides a comprehensive review of letters of intent (LOI), grant proposals/applications, and ethics applications.

• Ensures that researchers are compliant with university and sponsor policies, procedures, and eligibility guidelines.

• Identifies signing authorities for applications as needed.

• Develops and supports collaborative research initiatives.

Review and Submission of Funding and Grant Applications Guide: A detailed guide outlining the procedures for the review and submission of grants and funding proposals in the School of Social Work including both internal and external grants and awards.

School of Social Work General Authorization Form: A copy of the School of Social Work's approval form for Co-applicants internal/external to Memorial University.

Memorial Researcher Portal: This is a web-based work tool for Ethics certifications such as the Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR), Health Research Ethics Board (HREB), and Grenfell Campus Research Ethics Board (GC-REB).

Memorial University Research Policies: A list of institutional policies that guide the administration and practice of research at Memorial University. This page includes brief description of the policies with links leading to the full text of each listed policy on Memorial's policy website.

Research Funding Opportunities Database: A database containing information on internal and external funding opportunities for researchers at Memorial University compiled by staff in the RIS and CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services units. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences also maintans their own Research Funding Tracker.

Research Integrity & Ethics: A page outlining Memorial's standards of ethical conduct and scholarly integrity including information and resources concerning the university's Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR).

Tri-Council Agencies

Guide on Financial AdministrationThe Tri-agency Guide on Financial Administration is a comprehensive resource for grant recipients and administering institutions to ensure understanding of the principles and directives that govern post-award administration of grants funded by CIHR, NSERC and/or SSHRC.

SSHRC Future Challenge Areas: Researchers may wish to review Imagining Canada’s Future’s 16 future global challenges to consider addressing one or more of these areas in their research proposals. From 2022 to 2025, SSHRC plans to launch several funding opportunities to address four future challenges, and to hold Knowledge Synthesis Grants competitions to respond to additional emerging areas of public interest.

TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics: A tutorial designed to introduce researchers, regardless of their discipline or methodology, to the TCPS 2 guidelines. All faculty, staff, and students must complete the TCPS 2: CORE prior to submitting a new application to ICEHR for review as a principal investigator, academic supervisor of student projects, and any other project team members who will have contact with human participants. Certificates of completion must be included with your application submission, or your application will be returned to you.
