The primary purpose of the Faculty of Science (FoS IT) group is to ensure a standardized process for dealing with computing issues in the Faculty of Science.

We strive to develop and maintain the processes required to support this goal, while maintaining compliance with all applicable Memorial University and governmental regulations.

What information should you provide in your ticket to fosithelp@mun.ca?

Any information that you can provide to us in your ticket can help us better and more quickly resolve your issue. Here is some of the information that would really help us:

  • Computer hostname (on the label affixed to your computer, e.g. SSCI-D123)
  • Your operating system (Windows, Mac or Linux)
  • Your location (On St. John's campus, At another Memorial facility, Remote)
  • Your connection type (Wired, Wireless, VPN)
  • A short description of the issue you're experiencing
  • The urgency of the issue (We will still get back to you ASAP)

Shared resources include:

  • Internal file shares
  • New shared mailboxes
  • Requests to change current shared mailboxes or file shares

Mapping Network Drives

LabNet is a system that runs various servers and desktop computers on campus. Many general access computer labs including The Commons run off the LabNet system, and several departments have additionally adopted this system to run their computing labs, servers and desktop clients.

Please email fosithelp@mun.ca from your mun.ca email address, with your issue in the subject line and details in the body. A ticket will be automatically created and a FoS IT team member will be in contact as soon as possible.

Please note: If these instructions are not followed, a ticket for your issue will not be created and your issue will not be addressed in a timely manner.
