Physics 490 A/B Honours Physics Thesis

Physics 490a/b is a project-based course leading up to the preparation of an Honours thesis.  Students work with a faculty supervisor on a well-defined project that can involve lab work or review and development of some aspect of physics theory.  The course is broken up into two one-semester components.  In the first component (Physics 490a), students focus on understanding the background of their proposed work through a literature review and begin any experimental components of the project. In the second component (Physics 490b) students finish any experimental work and analysis and concentrate on preparing their Honours thesis.  At the end of Physics 490b, students are required to present their work at a short departmental seminar. The Honours thesis allows students to work closely with faculty members and experience what is involved in science research and is an excellent foundation for students planning to continue with graduate studies.
