The School of Music at Memorial University

MUN Music offers excellent professional training in a stimulating environment. With twenty-six full time faculty in Music and Music Education, we don’t just teach classes, we deliver individualized mentoring to every student.

MUN Music students are creative and passionate. Since 1975 we have been producing great instrumentalists and singers, conductors, composers, sound technologists, scholars, and music educators. Our well-funded graduate programs include the Master of Music, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology. In fact, about one-third of all our students receive music and university scholarships.

MUN Music is immersive. Every year we produce over 100 concerts, master classes, and public lectures. Our stages are equally home to some of the world’s top musicians and to our students, the stars of tomorrow. Our research centres provide opportunities for students to gain experience working with top music scholars.

Acoustically superb concert halls, a state of the art digital music lab, large rehearsal rooms, new pianos, and a wide range of ensembles give students the tools and experiences they need to develop their talents to the full.

The School is situated in St. John’s, a heritage city renowned for its rich culture and natural beauty. MUN Music students are exposed to international festivals and deep traditions, with many opportunities to participate.

Now, more than ever, careers in music demand versatility. At MUN Music we know that critical thinking is just as important as creativity. Our undergraduate music degree is even considered a solid foundation for careers in law and medicine. Career development and community opportunities prepare our students for real world challenges and our graduates are making an impact in a wide variety of musical fields.

Excellent. Engaged. Relevant. At MUN Music we’re training musicians for now and for the future.
