Scholarly teaching

Goal: Develop a cohort based faculty development program in research on student learning.

Supports Strategic Priority 3:
Promote and support deep and engaged learning for all through high-impact practices, educational technologies, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a systematic approach to evaluating one’s own teaching practices in higher education to understand how those practices impact student development.

Our new Teaching Enhancement through Scholarly Inquiry (TESI) program supports new and experienced educational practitioners through a collaborative, personally relevant, and active cohort-based learning program. At the centre of TESI is a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project to be completed by participants on a proposed inquiry idea of their choice.

This non-competitive, three-year program supports educators' professional learning as participants engage in planning, developing, and disseminating their own SoTL projects. The ultimate goal of the TESI program is to recognize and promote teaching innovation and student development through educator-led, data-driven investigations into teaching and learning.

Offered for the first time in 2022, we exceeded our goal of 12 and welcomed 18 projects into the inaugural launch of the TESI program. A second program offering will begin in the fall with the goal of supporting an additional 12 projects.

Number of Cohort Projects
Goal vs Actual
Goal: 12, Actual: 18
The total number of projects in the cohort far exceeded the intial goal of 12.
