Research Interests
Evaluating staphylinid beetle abundance and diversity as a responding variable at the L’Anse aux Meadows site (LAM) will allow for identification of patterns in ecosystem preferences and requirements. Living staphylinid beetles will be sampled from across the successional and human-mediated landscape of LAM at a taxonomic level allowing for designation into tiered groupings of environmental association, encompassing structure and composition, to provide data for the landscape in terms of staphylinid association. This method develops a view of site processes informed by sentinel species, tests the Staphylinidae as a sentinel group contemporarily at LAM, and provides data for interpretation of the remains of staphylinids from LAM deposits.
