History of Social Work in NL

Memorial University’s School of Social Work has played, and continues to play, a significant role in fulfilling the university's special obligation to the province.

This video, produced in 2018 on the occasion of the School of Social Work's 50th anniversary, highlights the history of social work in Newfoundland and Labrador. Special thanks to our alumni, current students, and faculty who helped make this video possible.

Produced in 2024, this video documents Drs. Donna Hardy Cox and Michelle Sullivan's History of Social Work Education and Practice in Newfoundland and Labrador project. Thanks to Memorial's University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for producing the video.

Unboxing the History of Social Work is a powerpoint presentation (in pdf format) delivered by Drs. Donna Hardy Cox and Michelle Sullivan at the Social Work Education at Memorial University: Celebrating the Past and Present, Reflecting on Future Directions event held on March 11, 2026 as a part of Memorial University's 100th Anniversary celebrations.
