M.A. Program
The MA program in ethnomusicology offers core research training with an emphasis on the development of fieldwork skills and the study of music as a cultural practice. Through courses offered in the School Music and the Department of Folklore, students develop a broad foundational knowledge that prepares them for advanced research, critical analysis, and public-facing work in ethnomusicology. Some program routes include a larger independent research and writing project. Demonstration of competence in a language other than English may be required if it is warranted by the student’s proposed research. The program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis.
