Jane Gosine is a Professor in the School of Music and cross-appointed to Community Health and Humanities, Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University. She teaches courses in musicology in the School of Music and supervises students within the Faculty of Medicine on projects related to the arts and health. Her research includes the study of 17th-century French music, particularly the music of Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and projects related to music and health, with a focus on group singing and wellbeing and the role of the arts in social prescribing.
Jane is the co-founder and director of the Better Breathing Choir – a choir designed to support people living with respiratory disease and those interested in improving their breathing through singing (betterbreathingchoir.wordpress.com). She is a co-investigator on a SSHRC Partnership Grant (2021) led by Dr Frank Russo, “Group singing to support social wellbeing and communication in adults with communication disorders: A knowledge generation and mobilization partnership” (www.singwell.ca) Jane is on the musical team with Shallaway’s neurodiverse ensemble, Lauda (www.shallaway.ca/lauda). She is an active member of the NLCAHR Arts and Health Research Exchange Group and co-convenor for 2021 (www.nlcahr.mun.ca/Research_Exchange/TheArtsHealth)
She serves as a consultant musicologist to music ensembles in Europe and North America on issues related to Renaissance and Baroque performance practices, and enjoys playing viol consort music.
