Giocoso

UPDATE: Giocoso is currently not being offered.

Giocoso

Giocoso is a music education program designed to serve rural areas of Newfoundland and Labrador. This program was created to counteract the deficit of music education opportunities faced by rural communities. The 2019-2020 season will serve as a pilot project, taking place in the town of Clarenville and serving students from the surrounding areas. The goal of Giocoso is to supplement and support the pre-existing musical education landscape of the area, and is not intended to infringe or take away from other music instructors working in the community.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in private lessons with Teaching Artists from Memorial University’s School of Music. Students will receive a monthly lesson in person, and weekly distance lessons using web conferencing technology. Lessons will take place on weekends, both in-person in Clarenville, as well as by distance using web conferencing technology. The program will focus on providing instruction on instruments for which there are no, or not enough, specialized teachers in the area.

In addition to the private lesson program, we also hope to offer a chamber music program (following the same in-person/online schedule as private lessons) and a monthly community musicianship workshop series. These programs will be open to all musicians, regardless of whether or not they are taking private lessons with Giocoso.
