Research Statement
My research focuses on the study of archaeological diets through the application of biomolecular methods (bulk stable isotopic analysis, compound-specific isotopic analysis of amino acids). It explores how dietary habits can be used as proxies to study health, socio-economic conditions and production dynamics in past societies. My PhD project focuses on the population of San Giuliano, a fortified Medieval site in Central Italy (Lazio), which lived through the Incastellamento (10th-11th centuries), a period of intense political turmoil. I’m particularly interested in studying how such major disruptive events affected the diets and living outcomes of children who experienced them.
