Research Statement

My current research examines an early eighteenth-century fishing and trading settlement located on the Canso Islands in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. In the 1720s and 30s, Canso emerged as an influential English fishing and trading community with far-reaching connections across Europe, and the Americas. My research looks at social structure and class division among the Islands’ inhabitants and situates the frontier outpost within broader historical and geographical contexts.
