New evidence of early metalworking in Arctic Canada

Analysis of copper-tin alloy traces recovered from a stone crucible, excavated from an archaeological site on Baffin Island, provides new evidence of an early (pre-Columbian) European presence in the Canadian Arctic, and may represent the earliest evidence of high-temperature nonferrous metalworking in the New World north of Mesoamerica.

Patricia Sutherland, Peter H. Thompson and Patricia A. Hunt present the results of their research,  "Evidence of Early Metalworking in Arctic Canada" in the online Geoarchaeology journal.
