Memorial health researchers host town hall meetings across province

A series of seven town hall-style meetings hosted by Memorial University are taking place this week in communities in central and western Newfoundland.

The meetings focus on health research.

They’re organized by the SUpport for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials (SUPPORT) Unit, a specialized centre within the Faculty of Medicine. The meetings are part of its Go West trip taking place this week.

Staff members want to hear from the public on what they believe the priorities for health research should be. Patient-oriented research is research that has a direct impact on patient health, takes into account patient experiences and incorporates patients in the research itself.

The listing of scheduled meetings is:

  • Monday, May 9
    Grand Falls-Windsor at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the EXCITE Building

  • Tuesday, May 10
Deer Lake at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Deer Lake Motel

  • Wednesday, May 11
Port Aux Basques at 7 p.m. in the Hotel Port Aux Basques

  • Thursday, May 12
Corner Brook at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Memorial’s Grenfell Campus, in room AS-2016

NL SUPPORT is a public-private partnership between stakeholders with a vested interest in improving health outcomes in patients including the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, IBM and other provincial and federal agencies.

All are welcome to attend the meetings.

More information about the cross-province tour is available on Facebook. As well, staff will be Tweeting during the meetings.
