Register now for the Memorial Researcher Portal

What is the Memorial Researcher Portal?

The web-based Memorial Researcher Portal will enable researchers to upload and submit their applications for external funding online to the university’s Research Grant and Contract Services department. In addition, researchers will be able to apply online for Memorial internal research funding programs. Also, both internal and external researchers will be able to apply online to the following human research ethics boards:

  • Memorial’s Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR);
  • Grenfell Campus Research Ethics Board (GC-REB);
  • The provincial Health Research Ethics Board (HREB).

The Memorial Researcher Portal will route researcher applications to faculty and department heads, as well as various review committees for approval and sign-off. Signing authorities, such as deans, department heads and research ethics board chairs, can submit commentary on the application and will be able route it back to the researcher for revisions.

As the application progresses through various stages, the principal investigator and research team will be kept apprised of approvals and changes via email and within the Memorial Researcher Portal’s work-flow log. Investigators will also have the ability to see all previously submitted applications in which they were a principal investigator or a project team member.

Post-approval activities, such as annual renewals and amendments, can also be entered into the Memorial Researcher Portal. All post-approval activities are then electronically linked to the original application.

Who can use it?

Any Memorial University researcher or team member undertaking funded research or requiring human research ethics approval can use the Memorial Researcher Portal to launch an application. Researchers outside Memorial embarking upon health research involving human participants can also use the portal.

Important dates

The Memorial Researcher Portal will be implemented in two phases:

Phase One: Applications to the human research ethics boards will be available on the Memorial Researcher Portal on Nov. 30, 2015;

Phase Two: Applications for grant and contract funding will be available in Winter 2016.

Starting Nov. 20, 2015, researchers will be able to go online at https://rpresources.mun.ca/ to request portal accounts and to register for training sessions.

Training sessions for researchers, who intend to submit human research ethics applications, will begin the week of Nov. 23, 2015. Researchers may select a date that works best for them.

Memorial Researcher Portal training

The specific dates, times, venues and how to book a training session will be announced in the coming weeks on Memorial’s Vice President (Research) website: http://www.mun.ca/research/

Instructional videos and material will also be available on the VPR website for researchers who wish to navigate the portal at their own convenience.
