Video series recognizes Memorial's ambitious goal of doubling research
Memorial University is proud to launch Research in Focus, a four-part video series that recognizes the university’s research aspirations for the next five years.
An initiative undertaken by the Office of the Vice-President (Research), Research in Focus features three to four videos per instalment every two weeks. The videos feature the deans of each of Memorial’s 10 faculties and schools, as well as the heads of each of Memorial’s campuses: the Fisheries and Marine Institute, Grenfell Campus, the Labrador Institute and Memorial University Libraries.
Each faculty and campus has outlined strategic goals for growing research and producing new opportunities for students, faculty and staff members of the university. The goals outlined in the series demonstrate Memorial’s special obligation to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, as the province’s only public university. Increasing Memorial’s research profile will continue to have significant impacts on the economy in terms of job creation, attracting talent and utilizing vital industries and resources.
The first instalment features Dr. Greg Naterer, dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science; Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Fisheries and Marine Institute; Dr. James Rourke, dean, Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Kirk Anderson, dean, Faculty of Education.
“Memorial has considerable goals for growing research, as outlined in the Strategic Research Intensity Plan 2014-20,” said Dr. Ray Gosine, vice-president (research), pro tempore. “Specifically, we plan to double scholarly output by the end of 2020. Research in Focus demonstrates the commitment of each and every faculty and campus at Memorial to achieving this worthy goal and positioning Memorial on the global stage in research excellence.”
