Memorial University of Newfoundland was established as a living memorial to those who died in the First and Second World Wars. The centenary of the First World War is from 2014 – 2018. The primary goal of the Living Memorial Commemoration Fund is to encourage and empower the entire university community to organize commemorative projects or events.

All faculty, students and staff are eligible to apply to the fund. Applications for less than $2,500 (Stream A) can be submitted at any time during the academic year while applications for more than $2,500 (Stream B) must be submitted by the third Monday of the first month of each new semester (September 15th for Fall semester and January 19th for Winter semester). Stream C funds are reserved for external partnerships.

The Living Memorial Commemoration Fund will support activities in three broad areas – academic, physical commemorations and library/archive projects. Those interested in applying for either stream must first contact Douglas Ballam at dballam@mun.ca. Prospective applicants should also visit the funds website (www.mun.ca/ww100) and review the Applicant Guide. The guide can be viewed and downloaded through the link below.
