Chamber Music

Chamber Music

Chamber Music courses are open to all music students (undergraduate and graduate). Students are placed into standard ensembles, such as woodwind quintets, string quartets, brass quintets, piano trios and guitar trios, to study and perform works from every musical period. Mixed ensembles, including those that involve voice, are also common.

Chamber music study culminates each semester in a juried performance presented on the Music at Memorial concert series.

Undergraduate Course Offerings

Music 3500 (sample syllabus) is the Introduction to Chamber Music course required of all first-time applicants for chamber music study.

We encourage students to seek advice from their applied instructors about possible chamber music opportunities. Students may apply as individuals, request placements in specific groups or instrumentations, or form chamber groups amongst themselves.

Applications are reviewed and approved by Dr. Nathan Cook during the first week of classes. Once approved, students will be given permission to officially register for the appropriate Chamber Music course.

Placement in chamber groups is dependent on instrumentation and faculty availability. It is inevitable that some students may not be able to be placed in a chamber group.
