An upcoming public lecture will discuss how technological innovation in a rapidly changing knowledge economy can create new opportunities for N.L.
Dr. Kamiel Gabriel is the founding associate provost research and professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University. He will be in St. John’s on April 8 as part of the faculty’s Speaking of Engineering lecture series, which is hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial and the Professional Engineers & Geoscientists Newfoundland & Labrador.
Research and innovation are at the core of the knowledge economy, which characterizes the 21st century. They set the foundation and impetus to create new jobs and new value-added products and services.
Innovation and commercialization are fluid and dynamic processes. Science and engineering research are indispensable ‘upstream’ elements – but it is the business community, and further ‘downstream’, civil society whose task it is to transform this knowledge into a thriving competitive Knowledge Economy.
In this presentation, Dr. Kamiel Gabriel will outline the key elements necessary for success and adaptation in an innovation-driven knowledge economy.
The free public lecture, titled, How technological innovation in a rapidly changing knowledge economy can create new opportunities for N.L., will take place Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in the Fortis Angus Bruneau Lecture Theatre, room EN2006, on the St. John’s campus. The lecture is open to all and will be followed by a reception. Free parking is available in lot 60.
