A Summer of Archaeology!
Many of our faculty and graduate students undertook fieldwork over the summer. A number of the research projects offer regular updates on the work being done and can be followed on social media.
The MUN Field School 2017 on Saint-Pierre et Miquelon is led by Dr. Catherine Losier and graduate student Meghann Livingston who are investigating the archaeology of the historic French colonial cod fishery. Follow the project's updates and Instagram account.
Archaeology in Sheshatshiu is a research project led by Dr. Scott Neilsen in Sheshatshiu, Labrador, and a field school is currently underway as part of a partnership between Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation and the MUN Archaeology Department.
The Avertok Archaeology Project is a collaborative project between Memorial University and the Nunatsiavut Government focusing on the early Inuit settlement of Avertok beneath present Hopedale, Labrador.
