Tensor categories provide a unifying language for several areas of modern algebra. They abstract the fundamental structural features of categories of representations of groups and Hopf algebras and furnish a natural setting for quantum groups, categorification, and generalized symmetries. The minicourse will introduce the basic structure theory of tensor categories, with emphasis on fusion and braided fusion categories, fundamental examples, and classification problems.
Professor Nikshych is a co-author of the monograph Tensor Categories, which has become a standard reference in the field.
The minicourse will consist of five lectures of 90 minutes each, which will be aimed at students, primarily at the graduate level. The lectures will be given at Saint Mary's University in Halifax and broadcast online.
A limited support is available for students. If you wish to apply, please send your CV and a recommendation letter from your supervisor to aac@mun.ca no later than January 4, 2027.
