Dear visitor to the web site of the Atlantic Algebra Centre, welcome!
On this site you will find information about various activities of AAC, a research institution which came into existence on September 1, 2006, thanks to the support of the Atlantic Association for Research in Mathematical Sciences and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Our Centre is based in St. John's, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The island of Newfoundland is often called The Rock; it is famous for its natural resources and beauty.
Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is a large postgraduate institution which hosts a great team of teachers and researchers in various branches of science. The faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of MUN not only teach many courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels but also conduct active research in Mathematics and Statistics.
The algebraists of the Department have close connections with their colleagues from other universities of Atlantic Canada, other provinces of Canada and many countries of the world. We love Algebra, one of the oldest yet always young areas of Mathematics, for its intrinsic beauty and also because of its growing usefullness in various aspects of human society. We understand that the development of Algebra needs permanent care and support. It is necessary that the researchers from different corners of the world meet on a regular basis, share their results and ideas, and pass their experience to younger generations of mathematicians. On this site you will see the modest contribution of the Atlantic Algebra Centre to the fulfillment of this global task!
Please come to our conferences and mini courses, apply to become our graduate student or postdoctoral fellow, take part in our undergraduate and graduate competitions!
On behalf of Atlantic Algebra Centre
Currently, we are hosting the International Workshop Groups, Rings, Lie and Hopf Algebras. IV.
On June 1, our guest, Distinguished AARMS Lecturer Professor Ivan Shestakov delivered a Public Lecture Tame and wild automorphisms of free algebras.
