General admission requirements

Credential

National Senior Certificate

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1,2
  3. Laboratory Science1 (Life Sciences or Physical Sciences)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective
  1. Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

  2. Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable to meet this requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • For admission to Fall (Sept) 2024 and later: Minimum average of 5 or 60 in the required subject areas, with a passing grade in each subject.
  • For admission to Spring (May) 2024 and earlier: Minimum grade of 4 or 50 in the required subject areas.
English language proficiency
  • Additional proof of English proficiency beyond completion of the National Senior Certificate is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.
