School members mourn loss of alumnus

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of alumnus Andrew Harvey (B.S.W. 2012).

As a member of the Memorial community, Andrew was the Off-Campus Housing Coordinator. A tireless indigenous and community activist, he advocated for ending sexual violence and homelessness, and was a board member of Happy City St. John’s, as well as a Big Brother.

Andrew shone during his time as a BSW student, obtaining an A average, while maintaining his university and community commitments. He approached his practica with For the Love of Learning and with the Assertive Community Treatment Division of the Mental Health and Addictions program at Eastern Health with energy and enthusiasm. He earned the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers Convocation Award and the Jackie Brown Memorial Social Work Scholarship.

Andrew was compassionate, kind, and always seemed to have a smile for everyone; he was a leader and an eager advocate for change in the community who will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Andrew’s family, friends and colleagues.
