Solutions that send email

Solutions that send email

Email as a communication tool is becoming increasingly challenging. Email providers, such as Memorial and external email providers like Google and Yahoo, have email security features enabled to reduce spam, phishing, and email spoofing, which are common techniques used by hackers to trick recipients into opening malicious emails or revealing sensitive information.

If units are sending emails from @mun.ca addresses via third-party solutions, email authentication needs to be configured to ensure the email is delivered in the most secure manner available. Email authentication decreases the likelihood of emails being flagged as spam as it adds a layer of security by verifying that an email sender is who they claim to be. It also helps to prevent spam, phishing, and spoofing. At Memorial, there are two options when using third-party solutions that send emails:

  1. Email authentication must be set up by the Office of the CIO for solutions and tools that need to send emails on behalf of an @mun.ca address. Only solutions that have been reviewed and assessed through the IT Governance and Collaboration Framework will be integrated with Memorial’s email security environment.
  2. Use a third-party service provider to send emails from their solution using a domain managed by the service provider. Note that using this option, emails cannot be sent from @mun.ca addresses.
