General admission requirements

Credential

One of the following is required:

  • Higher Secondary School Certificate
  • Higher Secondary Certificate
  • Indian School Certificate
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • All India or Delhi Senior School Certificate
  • Pre-University Certificate
  • Senior Secondary School Certificate

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1,2
  3. Laboratory Science1 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective

Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course.

Calculus is a required course in first year for business/commerce (St. John's campus only) and science programs at Memorial. To ensure students are prepared for entry into their chosen program of study, 12th level pre-calculus mathematics is normally required for admission to these programs. The mathematics requirement may also be met through the College Board SAT. A minimum Math Test score of 500 is required for general admission; 550 is recommended for business/commerce and science programs as noted above. Other mathematics tests/courses may be considered at the discretion of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • For admission to Fall (Sept) 2024 and later: Minimum average of 60% in the required subject areas, with a passing grade in each subject.
  • For admission to Spring (May) 2024 and earlier: Minimum overall grade of 50% in the required subject areas. This will normally be considered equivalent to no more than two grades less than 50% and a “pass” in all 5 subject areas.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • Current, interim transcript and 10th result certificate uploaded to the admissions portal or sent by email.
  • Official English proficiency test result.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
  • If the issuing education board provides an online verification service, you can send your marksheet certificate along with your admit card or details required for verification to admiss.docs@mun.ca. For boards that do not provide a verification service, certified copies will be considered official when received by post or courier.

If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution

  • If the issuing education board provides an online verification service, you can send your marksheet certificate along with your admit card or details required for verification to admiss.docs@mun.ca. For boards that do not provide a verification service, certified copies will also be considered official when received by post or courier.
  • Official English proficiency test result.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
