SUBJECT: Marine Institute and Teekay Offshore to unveil bridge simulation facility
DATE: Dec. 9
The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University will unveil a bridge simulator donated by Teekay Offshore to its Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Media are invited to a preview of the facility at 9:30 a.m. at the CMS at the Marine Institute’s main campus located at 155 Ridge Rd. in St. John's.
Paul White, managing director, Teekay Offshore, and Capt. Christopher Hearn, director, CMS, will be available for interviews.
The official announcement takes place at 10:30 a.m. in the Marine Institute conference centre and will be followed by a reception.
This latest bridge simulator is configured around the bridge design of an offshore shuttle tanker. Complete with a dynamic positioning system, the simulator can recreate the operating conditions, environment and scenarios that can occur during the loading and transport of oil cargo from multiple types of offshore production installations, including those present on the Grand Banks.
Combined with the institute’s two other class A ship simulators and the ship modeling and geographic database development expertise at CMS, this facility will present an enormous opportunity to advance the state-of-the-art offshore and maritime simulation capacity in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Parking will be available in the M1 parking area.
