SUBJECT: Marine Institute invites media to view Bartlett simulation

DATE: July 2

The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MI) invites the media to view a simulation of Capt. Bob Bartlett’s 1909 Polar expedition voyage in the Roosevelt on Monday, July 6, at 11 a.m.
The special viewing of Capt. Bartlett’s historic voyage will take place at MI’s Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) at the Ridge Road campus in St. John’s. Media will be given a tour of CMS by Capt. Christopher Hearn, director of the Centre for Marine Simulation.
The simulation of Capt. Bartlett’s 1909 voyage in the Roosevelt, during which he came within 150 miles of the North Pole, will give media a chance to experience first-hand what it is like when a vessel runs into ice, sails in rough seas and faces extreme weather. It is the same simulation that will be made available to the public from July 7 to Aug. 6 as part of Celebrating Bartlett 2009, an initiative of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The public can book tours of the Bartlett simulation by visiting  All tours are free of charge.
Celebrating Bartlett 2009 is a program of events and activities designed to showcase the life and adventures of Capt. Bob Bartlett to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as national and international audiences. Capt.
