SUBJECT: Global Cinema Series kicks off for Fall 2008

DATE: Sept. 16

An eclectic array of international films are slated for a six-part film series at Memorial University’s Inco Innovation Centre auditorium beginning Sept. 23. First initiated by the Division of Lifelong Learning and the Faculty of Arts in spring 2008, this is a unique opportunity to view multiple award-winning films from across the world and participate in discussions moderated by Memorial University professors with expertise in each film’s subject matter.
The series begins with Days of Glory, the winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Directed by Rachid Bouchareb, the film relates the story of soldiers recruited in Africa by the First French Army and their experiences on the front line in France.
Dr. Anne Thareau of the Department of French and Spanish will be on hand on Sept. 22 to present Days of Glory and will lead the post-screening discussion.
Passes ($30) and single tickets ($6) can be purchased in advance through the Division of Lifelong Learning at 737-7979 or via e-mail at Films begin at 7 p.m., in the Inco Innovation Centre auditorium.
