SUBJECT: 36th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing being held in St. John’s

The 36th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing will take place June 8-11 in St. John’s, N.L., at the Delta Hotel and Conference Centre.

The theme of this year’s conference, Exploring Synergies, will highlight the important role remote sensing plays in society. The goal is to bring together people with different perspectives on the broad topic of remote sensing to spark new ideas.

Keynote presenters include Ed Martin, president and chief executive officer, Nalcor Energy; Éric Laliberté, director general, Canadian Space Agency; Wade Larson, president and chief operating officer, Urthecast; and Michael Freilich, science mission directorate, NASA.

Nearly 200 presentations along with workshops and roundtable discussions from remote sensing organizations, government sectors, industry and academia will take place. Noteworthy presentations include MDA, Natural Resources Canada, C-CORE, NASA and the Canadian Space Agency.

This year’s general conference chair is Randy Gillespie, director, Centre for Applied Ocean Technology, Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University. The general conference co-chair is Joan Luther, research scientist with Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service, Atlantic Forestry Centre. The technical committee chair is Desmond Power, vice-president, C-CORE. The student program chair is Dr. Brigitte Leblon, professor, University of New Brunswick.
