SUBJECT: Memorial University business students to host business day

DATE: March 3

Note to editors:

On Friday, March 5, John Efford, minister of natural resources, and Dean MacDonald, executive vice-president and COO of Rogers Cable Inc., will help Memorial University commerce students and members of the local business community find balance in their lives. The two are participating in the 39th Annual Business Day Conference, which is being organized by the commerce class of 2004.

"As a commerce graduate from 1981, I am delighted to be a part of business day," Mr. MacDonald said, "I believe the interaction between the students and members of the business community is a learning experience for both sides."

Business Day is a one-day conference that gives students, faculty and local business people an opportunity to hear professionals discuss a timely business theme. This year's theme Finding the Balance revolves around three main ideas: self, business practices and social responsibility. These topics communicate the importance of ethics in all three areas and finding balance between our personal and professional lives. This year's conference, scheduled for Friday, March 5th at the Fairmont Newfoundland, promises to be an informative and exciting day that has become an annual tradition with the business community.

Other guest speakers include Leslie Galway, president and CEO of Newfoundland Ocean Industries Association; Heather Billou, director of Social and Enterprise Development Innovations; Geoff Eaton, founder and executive director of Real Time Cancer; and Jason Trask, local entrepreneur. Paul Thomey, sales manager of The Express and president of the St. John's Board of Trade, will moderate this year's conference. Tickets are $75 each, or $600 for a table of 10.

Media outlets interested in attending will be issued one complimentary pass for the day's events. To request a ticket, contact the Business Day committee by Thursday, March 4th at noon by calling 737-3566 or by e-mailing For more information visit
