Student Guide Program Veterans Affairs Canada

The historic sites of Beaumont Hamel and Vimy Ridge offer employment for students for up to 4 months. Successful applicants may be eligible for reimbursement of all or part of their airfare up to $600. (Accommodations in Arras subsidized by Veteran Affairs: 200 euros a month all inclusive.)

Odyssey

(Language Assistant in a francophone milieu in Canada). Only about 20 students per year avail of it at the present time.
9 month contract, students receive a salary of $18,500 for 25 hours of work a week – assisting teachers in a francophone school. They also get two return tickets home. Students are responsible for their own living expenses, including housing.
Only requirement: to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (not based on abilities to speak French).

Parliamentary Guide Program

$16.66/ hour for 35 hours a week plus, travel costs and $1000 for living allowance in Ottawa (assistance with finding accommodations at one of the local universities and partial reimbursement of airfare). Must be fulltime university students and must be bilingual.

Student Guide Program

Bordeaux exchange

(2 semesters- 1 student at the M.A level)
Opportunity to work as a lecteur or lectrice supervising English language courses and giving conversation classes at l’Université de Michel de Montaigne-Bordeaux III for a salary of approximately 1500 euros for 12 months
Eligibility: M.A student in French Studies.

Lycée de Saint-Pierre exchange

(January-June) (1 student) Same as CIEP but salary is approximately 1300 euros. Students can also register for courses and receive unspecified credits at the 3000 level.

Canada-France Youth Mobility Agreement With this visa, you can work while vacationing in France. 

Federal Student Work Experience Program

FSWEP is the primary vehicle through which federal organizations recruit and hire students. This programme provides thousands of students with temporary jobs every year in various federal organizations across Canada.

Students admitted in this programme will register for French 2100, 2101, 2300, 2900 and 2601 or 2602.
Cost: Program fee of $2000 covers textbooks, cultural activities, room and board, and return flight (this is cheaper than living in Residence). This programme is subsidized by the Provincial Government with funding under Canada’s Official Languages Act.
Eligibility: Completion of FR 1502 with a mark of at least 65%.

Summer Frecker Program

(July – 2 courses, French 2300 and French 2900)

Canadian Third Year in Nice Program

(2 semesters at l’Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis), 7 students, Memorial University of Newfoundland program
Cost: The overall cost of this program is highly dependent on personal living standards and expenditures as well as the extent of travel within Europe. The University of Guelph, a member of the consortium of 5 Canadian universities offering this program, tells its students who do not live at home to add 20% to their regular costs. According to MUN students who have participated in this program, a budget of $10 000 to $15 000 is required.
Eligibility: Completion of either FR2101 or FR2160. As this is a competitive program, completion of FR2601 and FR2602 is highly recommended.

Université de Bretagne Sud Exchange

(1 semester, Jan-May, in Lorient), 4 students.
Memorial University of Newfoundland program
Specified and/or unspecified MUN credits will be granted to students upon successful completion of courses at UBS.
Eligibility: French studies undergraduate student in 3rd or 4th year.

Lycée d’État Exchange Program in Saint-Pierre

(2 semesters- 4 students)
Students receive a bursary of 800 euros to help defray the cost of living) from Saint-Pierre’s Conseil Territorial as part of an exchange program with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador that sees also sees 4 students from Saint-Pierre studying in Newfoundland. Of particular interest to students planning a career in teaching as it allow them to study their teachable subjects in French while earning 3rd year MUN credits in French.
Eligibility: Resident of Newfoundland and Labrador + completion of either FR 3100 or FR 3101.

Explore Program (4 or 5 weeks)

French immersion program offered in various francophone regions across Canada. For French as a second language: 5238 seats for Canada, over 200 for NL)
Cost: Government subsidized program. Students only pay for transportation costs and personal expenditures as the government bursary covers tuition fees, room and board. Students who successfully complete this programme in a francophone university will receive 3 unspecified credits in French.
Eligibility: Canadian citizen or permanent resident + have been a full time student for a least one term during the current school year.

Fellowship program Bursary

Available for 2 years for students who study in a French milieu. For the past few years, all students have who met the criteria received the bursary in the first-year and second year.
1800 $ per term to study full time (at least 80% of the program has to be in French).

Study in a Francophone University and Transfer Credits

Up to 12 credits for the major and up to 6 credits for the minor. Please contact the department Head beforehand to determine whether you will be eligible for specified or unspecified credits.
