Cannabis on campus

The Government of Canada has announced that cannabis for non-medical use will be legalized on Oct.17, 2018. Memorial has a duty to maintain a safe teaching and learning environment for students, faculty and staff.

Please note the following:

  • The recreational use of cannabis, including smoking, vaping and consumption of edible forms, will not be permitted on Memorial campuses.
  • Memorial University is a smoke-free, public campus. The university's smoking policy is available here: https://www.mun.ca/policy/site/policy.php?id=243.
  • Memorial is in the process of reviewing all current internal guidelines, procedures and practices that could be impacted by the legalization.
  • Students who require cannabis for medical purposes may seek accommodation through the Blundon Centre.
