Virtual Field Trips

New for 2020, join us for our Virtual Field Trips at the MUN Botanical Garden!
 

Our virtual field trips are designed to be completed by you at your class' own pace. Pick and choose from a variety of activities, virtual games, self-guided 360 tours, and lesson plans for you to lead in-class, all designed to meet curriculum outcomes. Each class will include educational videos featuring our virtual field trip mascot, Bizzy!

Use these virtual field trips as an introduction to or as review of a unit. MUN Botanical Garden wants to be there to support you and your amazing teaching, and enrich your instruction.

Booking Information:

Price: Only $2/student in 2020!

Time Slots: Virtual Field Trips start on Monday mornings for 2 week slots. Our first slots will start on October 12, 2020.

Booking Details: You will get access to a Google Classroom for 2 weeks. The Google Classroom will have links to all of our educational materials for that virtual field trip. You will also be provided with a Step-by-Step Teacher Guide with detailed descriptions and instructions for leading all activities in your classroom.

Grade 1: Changing with the Times

Curriculum Connection:
Unit 1: Daily and Seasonal Changes

Virtual Field Trip Description:
Students will learn about the changes that happen each day and through the seasons in the world around them! They will learn about light and temperature differences, including the basics of reading a thermometer. They will take a look around the MUN Botanical Garden to see how seasonal changes affect our plants. And finally, they will learn how these changes affect animals.

Grade 3: Can You Dig It?

Curriculum Connection:
Unit 1: Exploring Soils

Virtual Field Trip Description:
Students will learn all about that all-important thin layer that covers the Earth around us! They will learn about the different parts of soil and classifying soils based on their rock particle sizes. They will investigate how well water is absorbed by different soils. Then, they will see why soil is so important to the living things around them.

Grade 7: All About Ecosystems

Curriculum Connection:
Unit 1: Interactions Within Ecosystems

Virtual Field Trip Description:
Students will learn about ecosystems and all of the organisms, abiotic factors and relationships within them! They will learn different scientific terms important to the study of ecosystems and will even get to experiment with abiotic and biotic factors in a virtual environment. They will explore different relationships between organisms in food webs and will engage in environmental action by encouraging others to compost. Then they will hypothesize about what would happen next in activities about ecological succession. The virtual field trip is finished off with a rousing virtual game of "Ecosystems Jeopardy!," an activity that is guaranteed to be fun for all!

-3 lesson plans for in-class activities that you can do with your class that include online interactive tools
