Background

Emily Winters (she/her) is from Paradise, NL. She completed her B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology and her M.Sc. in Experimental Psychology at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. She then pursued her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Regina. In the Fall of 2024, she returned home to St. John’s and completed the Clinical Psychology Pre-Doctoral Residency Training Program at NL Health Services. Emily began her role as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Memorial in the Fall of 2025. She primarily teaches courses within the PsyD program, including Adult Psychopathology and Practicum in Adult Assessment and Intervention. Her theoretical orientation is integrative, drawing on acceptance and commitment therapy, humanistic, emotion-focused, and interpersonal approaches.

Research Interests

Emily’s research largely focuses on stigma, substance use, and equity in healthcare training and delivery. Her recent interests include understanding and improving patient, provider, and trainee experiences within healthcare services and training programs.
