Film Screening "Music of Survival"

The MMaP Research Centre presents a screening of the film Music of Survival, the triumphant story of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus. The film examines the roots of a rare and fragile musical tradition and, set against the backdrop of the Second World War, focuses on the ways that music and musicians are used and abused by political regimes.

Music of Survival is a testament to the enduring power of art and the human spirit, even in the face of the greatest of horrors. It's music uplifts, informs and indeed transforms the spirit and the mind, shedding much needed light on a story of cultural survival that resonates even more deeply today.” Jesse Wente, Director of Film Programmes, TIFF Bell Lightbox

The film screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Orest Sushko. An Emmy award-winning re-recording mixer in both film and television, Orest has worked on films with directors David Cronenberg, Barry Sonnenfeld, Guillermo del Toro and others, on television series such as Orphan Black and Frontier and various documentaries including Alan Doyle’s Boy on Bridge.

The event is free and all are welcome.
