REF NO.: 21
SUBJECT: Third Annual Terry’s CAUSE on Campus in honour of Terry Fox
DATE: Sept. 19
On Sept 25, Memorial University will join universities and colleges across Canada in the Third Annual Terry’s CAUSE on Campus (College and University Student Engagement) in recognition and celebration of the legacy of Canadian hero Terry Fox.
Participating post-secondary institutions join together in this national event and run to honour Terry, and commemorate his Marathon of Hope, by raising funds for cancer research. The day is endorsed and supported by the Terry Fox Foundation and the Terry Fox Research Institute.
Proceeds from the event/run will support The Terry Fox Foundation’s cancer research programs. Run T-shirts can also be purchased with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation.
Terry Fox was a first-year kinesiology student at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C., when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer), resulting in the loss of his right leg above the knee. His final year at SFU instead became his Marathon of Hope – a 5,300-mile run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Now a Canadian legend, his vision, leadership, courage and hope continues to inspire people of all ages around the world. The initiative recognizes Terry’s legacy and provides Canadian university and college campuses an opportunity to celebrate Terry’s accomplishments and to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients at home and abroad.
