At the May 2021 meeting of the Board of Regents, the board recommended that the official name of the institution be revised to “Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Memorial’s official name remains Memorial University of Newfoundland until it is officially changed in the Memorial University Act. No determination has yet been made on how the abbreviation for the university may change based on an official name change. Marketing and Communications recommends using Memorial or MUN until further guidance is developed.
