The SPARKS Literary Festival

Unique in the St. John’s area, the SPARKS Literary Festival brings together emerging and established writers from Newfoundland and Labrador, alongside visiting authors from outside the province. Through readings, workshops and informal conversations, SPARKS has become a space to share stories, ideas and the joy of language.

Founded in 2009 by poet and professor Mary Dalton, SPARKS is now organized by Memorial University’s Department of English with the support of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The festival continues Dalton’s vision of a joyful “word spree,” showcasing writers at all stages of their creative lives.

The festival is free and open to the public. No tickets or registration required. Books by participating authors, as well as a curated selection of Newfoundland and Labrador publications, are available for purchase during the event.
