Second Harvest
Second Harvest is Canada's largest food rescue organization and is a global thought leader on perishable food redistribution. We operate at the intersection of hunger relief and environmental protection, tackling food loss and waste through food redistribution, research, awareness, and education, continually innovating, and collaborating to ensure a more sustainable planet. We work with thousands of food businesses from across the supply chain utilizing logistics and technology to reduce the amount of edible food going to waste, thereby diverting unnecessary greenhouse gases from entering the environment.
Location: Remote, in the community
Typical Volunteer Duties: National Youth Council members will help Second Harvest meaningfully engage with younger audiences and will take action to address issued of food waste. This is a project-based assignment.
Council Positions Include:
President: With support from the Second Harvest staff lead, the President will guide initiatives and project deliverables of the council and will serve as the primary representative for the youth council in Second Harvest's mission to reduce food waste.
Vice-President: The Vice President will support the President in leading the council, facilitating meetings, and helping to develop strategies that promote youth engagement in Second Harvest’s initiatives.
Member-At-Large: Members at Large will actively participate in council activities, contribute perspectives on food waste issues and support the development of initiatives that engage youth in Second Harvest’s mission.
Commitment: 3 hours per week between January-June. There may be ad hoc duties assigned to meet project deliverables.
Requirements:
- Age range: 18-25 years old
- Highly engaged and willing to post about the council’s efforts and Second Harvest’s mission on personal social media (large following on social channels is an asset)
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, virtual meetings
