Digital Seniors NL

Digital Seniors NL is a community-based initiative dedicated to helping older adults in Newfoundland and Labrador feel confident, connected, and safe in today’s digital world. The organization works to bridge the digital divide by providing accessible technology education, one-on-one support, and community workshops that help seniors learn to navigate smartphones, computers, and the internet. Through patient guidance and inclusive programming, Digital Seniors NL empowers older adults to stay socially connected, access online services, and protect themselves from digital scams and misinformation.

Volunteer Activities/Duties:

Digital Literacy Mentorship: Volunteers provide one-on-one or small group support to seniors learning how to use smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Technology Workshops: Volunteers assist with community workshops that teach topics such as email use, video calling, online safety, and basic internet navigation.

Device Support & Guidance: Volunteers help seniors understand device settings, applications, and everyday digital tools like messaging apps, social media, and online services.

Digital Safety Education: Volunteers help seniors learn how to recognize scams, protect personal information, and stay safe while using the internet.

Commitment:

Mentorship Sessions: Flexible, based on volunteer availability and scheduled sessions.

Workshops & Events: Periodic sessions hosted in community spaces such as libraries and community centers.

Volunteer Requirements:

• Basic digital literacy and familiarity with smartphones, tablets, or computers
• Patience and willingness to support older adults with varying levels of technology experience
• Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
• Completion of volunteer orientation and confidentiality agreement (if applicable)
