School of Graduate Studies Graduate Student Research Colloquia

courtyard

The School of Graduate Studies sponsors its monthly speaker series for graduate students, visiting research students, and post-doctoral students at Memorial. The goal is to provide an important venue for graduate students to present their research in a scholarly and professional way. The colloquia will provide a lively forum in which to exchange ideas that stimulate interaction among the university community.

Submissions

Any graduate student or group of graduate students who wish to present research as a team and are registered at Memorial may submit a one-page abstract (full papers will not be accepted) of the proposed presentation, with a suggested title to:

Colloquia
School of Graduate Studies
Inco Innovation Centre

The Dean and Associate Dean of SGS will select the papers and inform the applicants.

Presentations are to be no longer than 20 minutes and may include graphs, diagrams, pictures, data, audio, narrative text on poster boards, table displays, and/or laptop computers. Students must keep in mind that their research will be presented to audiences unfamiliar with their discipline or field studies. Proposals should reflect this fact.

The School of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce that, graduate students selected to present at the SGS Graduate Student Research Colloquia will receive a $500 travel award as assistance to present their research at a conference. The additional funding, over and above the normal allotment for current conference travel assistance, will still require that students are eligible to receive the funding (i.e. accepted to present at the conference and must be registered). The award will be split evenly in the case of multiple presenters.
