Thesis Writing Group

Completing writing assignments can be much easier when adhering to a regular schedule and becoming a member of a supportive writing group. Groups keep writers accountable and foster a sense of community. With this in mind, the Writing Centre and School of Graduate Studies are hosting a thesis writing group for graduate students in the Winter 2022 semester.

If you are looking for some distraction-free time to write and can commit to a consistent writing schedule, then this group is for you. Students will meet online from 9 am - 12 pm NT on Mondays and 1 - 4 pm on Wednesdays. The majority of the time will be devoted to writing, followed by a short group discussion at the end of each session. All meetings will be facilitated by Sophie Wells, Writing Centre staff member.

Mondays, 9 am-12 pm NT
Wednesdays, from 1-4 pm NT
January 19 - March 28, 2022

Online via WebEx (Connection link will be included in registration confirmation email)

  • The writing group is intended to give students the opportunity to generate text, not perfect it.
  • Students may remain on or off camera during the writing portion.
  • Graduate students are encouraged to meet with their supervisors prior to the writing group to establish goals.
  • All participants should measure their achievements at the start and end of each session.

Important Notice:

Tutoring will not be offered during the sessions. The writing group is not designed to provide intensive writing assistance, or to help students improve their academic English. It is a time to come together to write independently as part of a supportive group of cross-disciplinary peers.
