Workshops for Science Students
ScienceM@tters holds reoccurring Career Development Workshops located in various boardrooms within science departments. Below is the schedule which is updated each semester.
Ready, Set, Connect: A Science Career Networking Event
During Science Career Networking events, science students and graduates have an opportunity to pitch their skills and experiences to industry professionals from various companies that hire for science backgounds. During the event, groups of students and grads are matched up with participating industry professionals at tables. The industry professionals move to another table approximately every seven minutes until everyone has been acquainted.
Science Career Talks
During Science Career Talks, science alumni working in the industry speak to science students and graduates about the career paths they have pursued and how they have navigated their job search. Since many jobs are not publicly advertised, networking often plays a major role in how students and graduates find jobs and careers that fit their interests and values.
Science Job Searching Club- 4th Year Science Students
Looking for a job but not sure how to get started? Interested in learning the various ways to apply for jobs?
Every winter semester, 3rd year (and beyond) science students have the opportunity to apply to the Science Job Searching Club – a support group of job seekers who learn to enhance resumes and cover letters, master in-person and virtual networking, improve interview skills and acquire tips and tricks to dive into the hidden job market. Students in the Science Job Searching Club have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, learn what employers look for in candidates and take time during some of the sessions to job search with other group members.
Meetings are supportive and full of discussion led by a Career Development Coordinator with the Faculty of Science. Participation is free and it is asked for you to participate in all sessions.
