Memorial is an awesome place to become a scientist!

The Faculty of Science consists of nine departments across a wide range of disciplines and with specializations available. Our combination of course, lab and field work and research opportunities will ensure our students are well prepared for whatever path they choose.

Get started with Everything Science 2023 - our introduction to studying science at Memorial. Our events will acquaint you with the executive team in the Dean of Science Office, our departments, academic advisors, research opportunities and our student societies.

Join us on Orientation Day (Sept. 5) to discover exciting opportunities to pursue science and find out how everything is science at Memorial University. These events will take place after Academic Matriculation – Note: students should arrive at the Field House by 9:30 a.m.

Welcome to the Faculty of Science
           

Immediately following academic matriculation event (Field House, 9:30 a.m.), begin your academic journey with a welcome from Dr. Travis Fridgen, Dean of Science.   Afterwards make your way to the Core Science Facility (Whale Atrium) to pick up your FREE T-shirt, lunch compliments of the Faculty of Science, tours of our facilities, info sessions on academic advice, career advising and much more!

Note: this event immediately follows Academic Matriculation & students should arrive at the Field House by 9:30 am.


       
T-Shirt Pick-up and Lunch
     

After your Welcome session and a short walk across campus to the stunning Whale Atrium in the Core Science Facility, pick up your T-shirt and then at noon, join us for a FREE pizza lunch compliments of the Faculty of Science.

Academic Expo, Info Sessions & Campus Tours

 

   

The academic expo will give you the opportunity to chat with academic advisors and student society representatives from our nine academic units. We’ll also have fun exhibits like a touch tank from the Department of Ocean Sciences and liquid nitrogen ice cream from Let’s Talk Science! 

In the adjacent conference room, we will offer mini information sessions throughout the afternoon covering academic advice, career advice and even a presentation from Let’s Talk Science about volunteer opportunities.

While you’re here, you can also sign up for a 45-minute tour of our facilities to help you become acquainted with key offices, labs, help centres and study areas which will be invaluable during your first semester.
