Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Come East, Go Further!

Memorial is one of Canada's top universities and our Department is aiming to become one of the best.  We are young — half our faculty have been hired since 2005 — and proud that fully 20% of us hold the university's highest rank, University Research Professor.

We offer courses leading to general and honours degrees in both the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts, with concentrations in applied mathematics, pure mathematics and statistics. We also offer a variety of graduate degrees in both mathematics and statistics. Currently, 100 undergraduate students and 70 graduate students are enrolled in our 23 degree programs.

You will love St. John's, the oldest city in North America, with its vibrant cultural and social life, great coastal walking trails, the scene of fabulous folk and rock festivals and home to an annual Regatta that dates to 1816.

Two incoming first-year students at Memorial University have been named 2022 recipients of Schulich Leader Scholarships.

Jason Matthews is the recipient of an $80,000 award and joins Memorial with plans to pursue a bachelor of science degree with joint honours in computer science and statistics.

Memorial students will not be charged the Distance Education Administration Fee and Recreation Fee for the upcoming semester.
