Welcome Week 2018
As part of its ongoing commitment to education and increasing awareness through engagement of all members of the University community, the Sexual Harassment Office will be participating in a number of events as part of Welcome Week 2018, at Memorial.
The Sexual Harassment Office serves all students, faculty and staff of all campuses and institutes of the university and encourages all members of the university community to participate in the various Welcome Week events taking place.
Move-In Day Consent Clothes Line
Location: Hatcher Square
Date: Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, 10 am - 2 pm
Students moving into residence on the St. John’s campus will be invited to design their own consent message inspired t-shirt as part of a consent clothes line. Students will be provided with t-shirts and markers and encouraged to create messages that engage students in raising awareness about consent and reflect the shared responsibility of the issue of sexual harassment and sexual assault. A consent clothes line will also be taking place at the Marine Institute campus in mid-September.
Family Orientation
Location: Bruneau Centre
Date: Monday, Sept. 3, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Sexual Harassment Office will be participating as a panelist during the Family Orientation event, where there will be an opportunity to learn more about resources and supports available on campus.
Discover Memorial Campus Tour
Location: Starting at Field House
Date: Monday, Sept. 3, 12:30 – 4 pm
As part of the Discover Memorial campus tour, the Sexual Harassment Office will facilitate a pledge event aimed at engaging students in identifying ideas and actions that members of the University community can take in creating an environment that is free of sexual harassment and sexual assault. These ideas will be shared on colourful post-it notes and placed on a pledge poster for display and to reiterate the University community’s commitment.
Graduate Student Orientation
Location: Bruneau Centre
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 4, 8:30 am – 3 pm
The Sexual Harassment Office will have an educational booth during this orientation event with office brochures, promotional buttons, ‘Always Ask’ water bottles and pocket resource cards for students to avail of.
@MemorialU Fair
Location: University Centre, Third Floor
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 4, 11 am— 3 pm and Wednesday, Sept. 5, 10 am – 4 pm
The Sexual Harassment Office will be participating in the @MemorialU Fair with a informational booth, providing office brochures, promotional buttons, ‘Always Ask’ water bottles and pocket resource cards.
MUN 101
Location: Physical Education Building Lobby
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 4, 6 pm – 8 p.m.
MUN 101 will provide students an opportunity to learn about the resources available to them at Memorial, through a series of panelists, including the Sexual Harassment Office.
Sexual Harassment Office Photo Booth
Location: University Centre Food Court
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 5, 11 am – 3 pm
In collaboration with the Memorial University Students’ Union’s Welcome Carnival, the Sexual Harassment Office will be holding its annual photo booth event. This event encourages students, faculty and staff to strike a pose and participate by using various props and accessories reflective of key messages of the office’s ‘Always Ask’ campaign.
Wellness and Academic EXPO
Location: University Centre, Third Floor
Date: Thursday, Sept 6, 10 am – 2 pm
The Sexual Harassment Office will be hosting a booth at the Wellness and Academic EXPO with office brochures, promotional buttons, ‘Always Ask’ water bottles and pocket resource cards for students to avail of.
Marine Institute Welcome Back Carnival
Location: Marine Institute Lobby
Date: Thursday, Sept. 6, 12 pm – 2 pm
The Sexual Harassment Office will be hosting a booth at the carnival with office brochures, promotional buttons, ‘Always Ask’ water bottles and pocket resource cards for students to avail of.
Other activities
In addition to the St. John’s campus activities, the Sexual Harassment Office will be participating in the Grenfell Campus Parent Orientation on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. in LC 301 as well as an informational Coffee House session, to be held in mid-September (date TBC).
