Evan and Miriam  Evan and Miriam met at Duke University, were married in 1964 in Durham, North Carolina, and shortly thereafter travelled to Austria for Evan’s year as a Fulbright Scholar in Innsbruck. Their daughter, Thel, was born there. In 1966 the family moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where Evan began an academic career and Miriam studied what was then called Library Science. While Evan was teaching and writing, Miriam served by turns as a research and children’s librarian, a community information officer and a political organizer for the New Democratic Party. The two of them moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 1999 and consider it home. Retirement allows them to escape to southern climes during the Canadian winter, but they can always be reached by email, Evan at johnevansimpson at gmail dot com, Miriam at miriamsimpson08 at gmail dot com. Thel for her part is demonstrating the versatility of a liberal arts degree (McGill, '87) as a project officer for the Ontario Ministry of the Agriculture.
